The website for Area 78 was sort of like a dog owning a car.  It was nice to have and would be nice to take ride in but he didn’t quite know what to do with it.  The website has languished with a little work done on it here and there but not living up to its potential.  The Public Information Chairman made an insightful speech on the emerging importance of having a good website at the March 2010 Pre-Conference Assembly which will be paraphrased in the next paragraph.

Through informal polling of people under 30 of how they came to find the meeting in the Red Deer area it was found the meeting information came from a website.  When AA started the medium for providing information was the newspaper, now it’s the internet.  The Area 78 website can be powerful public information tool that can reach many people quite easily.  It’s important that we receive suggestions from the membership on the direction of the website.

How influential is the internet?  For a lot of people, it is their main form of communication, information, and entertainment.  More people spend time on the internet than watching television.  There are 68% of Canadians on average that use the internet for personal reasons*.  Alberta at 71% and British Columbia at 69% are two of the three provinces whose internet usage is above the average*.

The Feedback Sheet can be returned at the September 2010 Assembly or it can be emailed to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
