  There are 472 registered groups in Area 78, which encompasses 1,596,867 square miles.  All of Alberta, the Northwest Territories, a large portion of Nunavut Territory, Peace River block (north eastern BC) and East Kootenays (south eastern BC) are included in Area 78.

AREA 78 Website - Guidelines

Purpose:

The purpose of the Area 78 Website shall be to assist Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.) in Area 78 to carry the message of A.A. and to provide information about the A.A. fellowship to:

  1. the public,

  2.  the media

  3.  the A.A. fellowship.

The Website shall present information to enable the still-suffering alcoholic to make direct, face-to-face contact with Alcoholics Anonymous, and to provide information regarding the service structure in Area 78.

Policies:

  1. The Website shall be a Public Information vehicle of the Area 78 Assembly and shall present only approved, publicly available information about A.A.

    1. The approval required for any information is commensurate with the delegated responsibility for the information (Concept X).

    2. In keeping with 12 Traditions, the Website shall NOT:

  1. Publish any member’s telephone number or email address that identifies the first and last name of the member.

  2. Publish an individual’s full name or identifiable picture.

  3. Present any affiliation, endorsement, display of or link to any non-A.A. entity

  1. The Website shall be funded exclusively by the Area 78 Assembly and can not accept funds from any other source.

  2. The Website shall operate under the auspices of the Public Information (P.I.) Committee of the Area 78 Assembly.

  3. The P.I. Committee shall be responsible for filling the position of webmaster (also known as Webservant).

  4.  The Webservant shall be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the websit.  As a trusted servant, the Webservant is authorized to make changes to the Website, as deemed necessary, within the limitations of these guidelines.

  5.  The P.I. Committee may, as needs arise, form ad-hoc committees to address specific website needs or concerns. The ad-hoc committees shall be comprised of the Area 78 P.I. Chair, the webservant and others with an interest, a desire to serve and/or a particular skill set.

  6. The P.I. Committee shall regularly canvass the general membership of the Area 78 Assembly to ascertain whether the Website is fulfilling its purpose.

  7. The P.I. Committee shall display the Website at every Area 78 Assembly and Area 78 Committee meeting whenever it is technically feasible.

  8. These guidelines may be revised upon approval of the voting membership of the Area 78 Assembly at a regularly scheduled business meeting.

Procedures:

  1. Website Registration:

  1. The Website shall be registered with the InterNIC as http://www.area78.org, in the name of the Area 78 Assembly.

  2. "P.I. Chairperson of the Area 78 Assembly" shall be named owner of the domain registration.

  3. The billing contact shall be the WebServant (Webmaster).

  4. The technical contact with the InterNIC must necessarily be the Website's Internet Service Provider.

  5. Technical access to the Website is limited to the P.I. Chairperson, WebServant and alternate WebServant.

  1. The Website shall contain the following:

    1. A home page displaying the name of the Website as well as clearly identified connections to the other sections of the Website.

    2.  A map of Alberta and parts of BC that belong to Area 78, identifying the location of Area 78 Districts.

    3. A list of A.A. meeting information for groups within Area 78 as provided to the Area 78 Registrar, except the contact number listed shall be that of the nearest central office or intergroup instead of the individual.

    4.  A page for each of the Committees currently operating within Area 78, where the committee may post relevant information.

    5. The Conference-approved “A.A. Fact Sheet”.

    6. The “Anonymity Letter to the Media” as supplied by GSO.

    7.  Listings of A.A. events within or connected to Area 78 as provided by the fellowship.

    8.  Links to the GSO and the Grapevine Websites.

    9. These Guidelines for the Website Committee.

    10.  A counter indicating the number of accesses to the Website.

    11.  A list of submitted, public Area 78 Intergroup/Central Office phone numbers.

    12.  A "Search" function for site navigation.

    13. A Site Map function to assist in understanding the site organization and navigation.

  2. To facilitate the operation of the Website within the Traditions of A.A., the Webservant shall maintain E-mail aliases for Table Officers and Committee Chairs. Each E-mail alias will be set up to route communication to the member’s own email account.

  3. General Service Representatives (GSRs) or District Committee Members (DCMs) may request the addition or  removal of any or all group information for groups within their District from the Website at any time

  4. Voting members of the Area 78 Assembly may submit announcements of A.A. events within or connected to the Area 78 to be posted on the Website to the Webservant in writing, using electronic or postal mail
